Prepare your students for success in CCSS Writing • Practice CCSS Reading Informational Text and Writing Standards • Use of media and technology to gather research and digital presentation • Culturally responsive (age, gender, religion, class, nationality, and ethnic cultures) • Top essay winners will be awarded prizes!

  4. The Academic English Mastery Program wants to know…. Who’s your Hero? Who has exemplified exceptional bravery? Who do you admire for their superior qualities and achievements?

  5. Allowing Choices How can we facilitate student choice in this essay contest? K-5th Grade Teachers provide students models of heroes through online resources, literature and informational texts so that students have a choice in selecting the (topic) of their opinion essay. 6th – 12th Grade Teachers allow students to conduct research on different heroes to write an essay supporting their claim. *Students have a choice of writing their essays or developing a digital presentation!

  6. Guiding Questions: 1.Why do you admire this person? 2.How has this person modeled bravery? 3.What superior qualities does this person possess? 4.How did your hero achieve their goals? 5.What does this tell you about being a hero? 6. How will you apply your heroes’ experiences and accomplishments to inspire your college and career goals?

  7. SEL Data Coordinators should AEMP IT UP!!Will a student at your school be Awarded this prestigious and scholarly honor?Winners will be honored at the COBA Convention on Saturday May 16th
