In 1945 Scotland imported 2000 two-storeyed wooden houses direct from Sweden to help solve the problem.

In addition a child’s educational path was determined by them passing the ‘11 plus’ exam. This led to dual system of secondary education, often considered to be socially divisive with children forced down a vocational path rather than academic one.

This led Dalton (Chancellor of the Exchequer) to claim “full employment was the greatest revolution brought about by Labour”.

This was largely because many felt the State was taking too active a part in Doctor’s work and also due to the loss of fee paying patients. Aneurin Bevan, Health Minister decided to get doctors support by compensating them, including paying 75p per NHS patient in their practice.
