  3. Witch Trials • Notorious in the New England Region • 14 Women, 6 Men charged with witch craft • The accused were examined by a Puritan Clergy. • During the Summer of 1692, over 200 people were accused of witch craft.

  4. Victims of Trials • Bridget Bishop Hung under accusation of witchery • Sarah Good Hung on July 19th, 1692 • Sarah Osborne 3rd woman to be accused by Betty Parris and Abigail Williams, accused of witch craft, died in Boston jail

  5. Betty Parris and Abigail Williams • Started witch craft • Went crazy from fungus • Had illusions • Wanted to rid Satan from town • Accused 3 women, one named Tituba

  6. An Abrupt Ending • Later during this year, the judge halted the trails after realizing it made no sense. • Governor Phips (Hill) Court of Oyer and Terminer • Financial Restitution was issued to the survivng families of those who were executed during the witch trials

  7. Execussions -They were sent to Gallows Hill, a baron slope near Salem Village for hanging. -One man was pressed to death under heavy stones. -Dozens languished in jails without trial.

  8. Conclusion • Nineteen convicted witches executed. • Four witches died in prison • One man crushed by rocks • Over 150 arrested in total for witch craft. • Two dogs killed for being accomplices with accused witches.
