  2. Propaganda is an intense effort to spread an idea. Name calling , bandwagon, and heart strings are some examples of propaganda. Ex.- vote for Bob for president. Jerry will make gas rates go up!! Propaganda

  3. Stereotypes Stereotypes are traits that people give to other people. They separate people into groups by how they look or dress. Ex- ALL women are shop-a-holics, All athletes are meat heads, etc.

  4. Voice A voice is the writers way of writing . Voice is shaped by the choice of words, the way they are put together and the details and the thoughts the writer chooses to write about. EX-the cat was graceful and sleek.

  5. Style EX-In The true confessions of charlotte doyle the style is classy and elegant. A style is a particular way of writing. It involves how something is said rather than what is said. Word choice, Sentence length, tone, imagery, and use of dialogue contributed to a writers style.

  6. Word Choice Word choice, is also diction, is the process by which writers carefully select words to give precision and impact to their writing. Ex- Exotic , stinky, and glamorous.

  7. MOOD A mood is a feeling that a literary work conveys to readers It can be described by words such as eerie,dreamy, and mysterious. Armstrong Sperry creates a mood of excitement and tension as mako prepares to meet tupa.

  8. TONE • The tone of a work shows the writers attitude toward his or her subject • Ex- Don C. Reed’s essay “my first Dive first the dolphins”. Varies form humors to serious.

  9. Purpose There are 4 different purposes you can use for writing- to inform, to entertain, to persuade, to express feelings or emotions. Ex.- Squirrels eat nuts.- inform My pet is sooo funny!!!- entertain You should read this book because….- persuade My fish died yesterday! -emotions

  10. Authors perspective! An authors perspective refers to an author’s beliefs and attitudes. These beliefs may be influenced by facts from the story. “In Bringing home the prairie” The author reveals her attachment to the very soil ofthe the prairie, where she grew up.

  11. Audience The audience of a piece of writing is the particular group of readers that a writer is addressing. A writer considers his or her,audience when deciding on a subject,a purpose for writing,and tone and style in which to write.

  12. Bias! Preformed opinion for against the reason in the story.”I think football is the greatest sport ever”said Jim” it has a lot of excitement and it is violent.”
