  2. Goals • Content Goal: Students will begin to develop their ideas for their grant writing individual research papers and will gain insight into expectations through the examples. • Language Goal: Students will further develop their understanding of the separate sections of the paper as well as the parts of the paragraphs. • Social Goal: Students will transition well between different activities and will work well individually.

  3. Paragraph 5 Example

  4. Topic Sentence • The goal for The Tiny House Project, over the course of the next year, is to build eight houses as a means to alleviate some of the problems that individuals who are homeless face on a daily basis. Thanks to donations and the help of volunteers, along with a government appointed full time staff members, The Tiny House Project is requesting a total sum of $71,200, the estimated cost for building the tiny homes. • Write your topic sentence describing your goals and ultimately the amount of money you will be asking for (put a blank space there if you don’t know how much at this point).

  5. Building/Rental Costs • Table First • Due to government grants that have been rewarded and renewed in the past, the organizations headquarters and the village in which the houses will stay, have been provided rent-free. In addition to this, in an advertising deal, Ameren Illinois and Illinois American Water have agreed to fund these houses and our organization headquarters for another year, free of charge.

  6. Operation Costs • Table First • Tumbleweed Houses, an organization that provides pre-built homes and building plans, has provided a clear and detailed overview of the various materials needed to build the tiny houses (Tumbleweed Tiny House Company). Thanks to the donations and discounts from local organizations such as Lowe’s and the Home Depot, we have brought the building cost down to $8,900 per house. A more detailed breakdown of the building budget, as well as records that indicate the relationship between our organization and the companies previously listed, can be found in the appendix.

  7. Staff Costs • Table First • The government grants also provide all full time staff salaries. The remainder of the workers, such as contractors, plumbers, electricians, and builders, have been found on a volunteer basis.

  8. Wrap Up Sentence • Due to the tremendous amount of support from the community and government grants, The Tiny House Project will be able to use these funds to provide individuals that are facing homelessness with opportunities to gain confidence and financial stability.

  9. Appendix

  10. Your Task • Choose two of the above topics to include in your appendix (you do not have to use one off of the list, but you do need to okay it with me first). The following are the two types of additions that you will need to contribute: • One should be research based and already published (something that you find online – such as photographs of resources, research studies, or statistical data). You also need a brief paragraph connecting these things back to your proposal. • The second should be something that you make up on your own. These may be based off of real resources that non-profits use, but they should be created by you. Examples could be application forms, sample emails, and marketing materials. • Cite your sources!!! Anything that you do not personally make or write needs to be cited.
