Google Search, or Google Web Search is a web search engine owned by Google Inc. A program that searches the Internet and finds WebPages for the user based on the keywords that you submit.

  4. What makes google different? • It stood out among other search engine companies as it relied more on the search results rather than the web content. • The search was quick, results were really helpful and internet users were getting more excited to use the Google. • You can use Google for almost anything, whether it’s for daily life or for a research project. • Refer to next page…

  6. Who invented Google? • Larry Page and Sergey Brin are the founders of Google. • Computer science graduate, fueled by the rave reviews that BackRub received, Larry Page and Sergey Brin began working on Google. • It started when two computer science students thought that they might enhance the search technology of the internet available during the 1990s. After they graduated it took them some time to transform their idea into the Google.

  7. Where did the name Google come from? • The name Google was used after a googol, the name for figure 1 followed by 100 zeros. The number was found by Edward Kasner and James Newman in the book Mathematics and the Imagination. For Larry and Sergey, the name Google simply represents the enormous amount of unlimited information that a search engine should accommodate.

  8. What is Google made up of? • Search engine software including: Boolean operators, search fields, display format, etc. • Spider software(a software program that travels the Web (hence the name "spider"), locating and indexing websites for search engines. All the major search engines, such as Google and Yahoo!, use spiders to build and update their indexes. These programs constantly browse the Web, traveling from one hyperlink to another.) • A database (A database is a collection of information organized to provide efficient retrieval) • Algorithms that rank results for relevancy

  9. Advantages of Google • Your search covers more than 8 billion URLs. • Google's index, comprised of more than 8 billion URLs, is the first of its kind and represents the most comprehensive collection of the most useful web pages on the Internet. While index size alone is not the key determinant of quality results, it has an obvious effect on the likelihood of a relevant result being returned. • You'll see only pages that include the terms you type. • Unlike many other search engines, Google only produces results that match all of your search terms, either in the text of the page or in the text of the links pointing to the page. This spares you the frustration of viewing a multitude of results that have nothing to do with your search terms. • The position of your search terms is treated with respect. • Not only do Google's results contain all of your search terms, but Google also analyzes the proximity of those terms within the page. Google prioritizes results according to how closely your individual search terms appear and favors results that have your search terms near each other. Because of this, the result is much more likely to be relevant to your query • You see what you're getting before you click • Instead of web page summaries that never change, Google shows an excerpt (or "snippet") of the text that matches your query -- with your search terms in boldface -- right in the search results. This sneak preview gives you a good idea if a page is going to be relevant before you visit it. • You can feel lucky and save time doing it. • Google excels at producing extremely relevant results, and flat out nails many queries such as company names. We're so confident, in fact, that we've installed an "I'm Feeling Lucky" button, which takes you directly to the site of the highest ranked result in your search. Try it and let us know if our confidence is justified. • You can get it, even when it's gone • It is fast, reliable, it has its own dictionary, calculator, and spell check.

  10. How is Google Helpful in life? • Google is free to use, has a custom search engine, puts the search results according to the most popular to least popular. • Google has options for image search, article search or even search for any government document. • It searches according to the terms you type and also searches for other terms with same meaning.

  11. Google Chrome: Google Chrome is a web browser developed by Google that uses the Web Kit layout engine and application framework. • It is faster and more efficient than the regular Google. Contains many features that can be used by webmasters to create a better experience. • Google Chrome comes with Gears built in, which allows users to take advantage of, for example, offline storage. In addition, Google Chrome allows your web application to look and feel like a "desktop" application. • Google Chrome also uses a brand new JavaScript engine (V8), which is much faster than existing JavaScript interpreters. • Improved plug-in performance and reliability. Spell checking for input fields. Improved web proxy performance and reliability. Tab and window management updates. • Bookmark manager with import and export support. Privacy section added to the application options. New blocked popup notification. Security fixes. • New "new tab" page for improved customization. 25% faster JavaScript. HTML5 video and audio tag support. Lightweight theming.

  12. Bing vs. Google • Have you ever heard of the term Bing it? Well, neither have I. I do however hear people saying Google it, practically every day. • When you need to find out something unknown, or look up something in more detail, I can bet you 90% of American run to the computer and type in Google.com. Now what does this tell you? That all Americans are using some crap • Despite the fact that people might think of Bing as the ‘new Google’, it really isn’t. • http://www.bing-vs-google.com/ • http://bvsg.org/

  13. Bing is made by Microsoft Industries to compete with Google. However, it doesn’t stand a chance against it.
