  3. RFID • In June 2004 iDA announced RFID as the next growth area for ICT. • IDA to invest S$10 million seed fund over the next 3 years to promote the development and adoption of RFID in Singapore and to develop Singapore into an RFID hub in Asia.

  4. VoIP Regulatory Framework • Public consultation in Sept 2004 on: • Licensing and regulatory framework to be adopted to allow IP Telephony services to be provided in Singapore; and • framework to be adopted to implement Electronic Numbering (“ENUM”). • Trial by IP Telephone service providers in progress • Expected announcement of VoIP regulatory framework by end of this year

  5. Broadband Wireless Access • Broadband Wireless Access allowed in 3 frequency bands: • Spectrum for auction in May 2005 • 2300 to 2350 MHz • 2500 to 2690 MHz • Licence free spectrum • 5725 to 5850 MHz

  10. Fixed Line Services (Direct Exchange Lines) 1This figure is computed using the total number of residential fixed line subscribers on a per household basis. The number of households is obtained from the latest figures available from the Department of Statistics.

  11. Mobile Market 2The pre-paid SIM card subscriber base figures are included in the total number of mobile phone subscribers as well as in the total number of GSM900 and GSM1800 subscriber bases.

  12. Paging Services 3Paging figures from Jan 99 onwards have been re-computed based on updated data information. With effect from July 2004, paging figures will be updated on a quarterly basis every March, June, September and December. The figures for Jan, Feb, Apr, May, July, Aug, Oct and Nov will not be updated and will reflect the latest quarterly figure.

Dial-Up Internet Services 4The dial-up market penetration figures includes the following subscribers: (i) subscription-based subscribers for all IASPs, including ISDN dial-up subscriptions; and (ii) free Internet access subscribers. Following full telecom market liberalisation, the number of IASPs have increased considerably. Starting Jan 2001, the published figures on the internet dial-up market include contributions from such new IASPs..

Broadband Internet Access Services 5With effect from July 2004, the total number of broadband subscriptions includes xDSL, cable modems, leased line Internet and other broadband Internet access methods. 6This figure is computed using the total number of residential broadband subscribers on a per household basis. The number of households is obtained from the latest figures available from the Department of Statistics.
