  1. Where Do You Put Your Hope? • A Song of Ascents. Out of the depths I cry to thee, O LORD! Lord, hear my voice! Let thy ears be attentive to the voice of my supplications! If thou, O LORD, shouldst mark iniquities, Lord, who could stand? But there is forgiveness with thee, that thou mayest be feared. I wait for the LORD, my soul waits, and in his word I hope; my soul waits for the LORD more than watchmen for the morning, more than watchmen for the morning. O Israel, hope in the LORD! For with the LORD there is steadfast love, and with him is plenteous redemption. And he will redeem Israel from all his iniquities. (Psalms 130:1-8 RSV)

  2. Do You Value God’s Word? • Oh, how I love thy law! It is my meditation all the day. Thy commandment makes me wiser than my enemies, for it is ever with me. I have more understanding than all my teachers, for thy testimonies are my meditation. I understand more than the aged, for I keep thy precepts. I hold back my feet from every evil way, in order to keep thy word. I do not turn aside from thy ordinances, for thou hast taught me. How sweet are thy words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth! Through thy precepts I get understanding; therefore I hate every false way. (Psalms 119:97-104 RSV)22

Respect For God’s Word • According To The Pattern (Ex. 25:9, 40; 26:30; 27:8; 31:11; 39:42-43; Acts 7:44; 2 Tim. 1:13; Heb. 8:5) • Don’t Go Beyond (Num. 22:18; 24:13; 1 Cor. 4:6; 2 Jn. 9-11) • Don’t Add Or Subtract (Dt. 4:1-2; 12:32; Pr. 30:5-6; Gal. 3:15; Rev. 22:18-19) • Don’t Turn Aside (Dt. 5:32-33; 17:11, 18-20; 28:13-14; Josh. 1:7; 23:6; Pr. 4:26-27)

Respect For God’s Word • Don’t Preach Another Gospel (Gal. 1:6-10) • Don’t Teach A Different Doctrine (1 Tim. 1:3-7; 6:3-5) • Don’t teach the commandments of men (Mt. 15:7-9; Mk. 7:6-9; Col. 2:16-23) • Hold firm apostolic traditions(1 Cor. 11:2; 2 Th. 2:15; 3:6) • Speak As The Oracles Of God (1 Pet. 4:11)

  8. The Consequences • One will be rebuked by God (Pr. 30:5-6) • One is accursed (Gal. 1:6-10) • One is proud and knows nothing (1 Tim. 6:3-5) • One does not have God (2 Jn. 9-11) • One will receive plagues and God will take away his part from the Book of Life (Rev. 22:18-19)

  9. The Eternal Word • What is the proper use of the Bible? • Faith – (Romans 10:17) • Convert – (Psalms 19:7; Acts 11:14) • Guide – (Titus 2:11,12) • Prepare – (1 Peter 1:4)

The Eternal Word • You have been born anew, not of perishable seed but of imperishable, through the living and abiding word of God; for "All flesh is like grass and all its glory like the flower of grass. The grass withers, and the flower falls, but the word of the Lord abides for ever." That word is the good news which was preached to you. (1 Peter 1:23-25 RSV)
