“Turn, turn, turn” lyrics To everything - turn, turn, turnThere is a season - turn, turn, turnAnd a time for every purpose under heaven…
The most famous ‘time’ passage Ecclesiastes 3.1ff There is an appointed time for everything. And there is a time for every event under heaven A time to give birth, and a time to die; A time to plant, and a time to uproot what is planted.A time to kill, and a time to heal; A time to tear down, and a time to build up...

Ecc 3.11 He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end.
simple outline • Problems • Mistakes • Challenges
PROBLEMSWhat people say about ‘time’ • Kulang sa oras • Too much to do with little time • Not knowing what to do with time • Having everything on ‘delayed time’ • Nasayang ang oras Anong masasabi ng Bibliya?
#1 We forget that we don’t know our time Moreover, man does not know his time: like fish caught in a treacherous net, and birds trapped in a snare, so the sons of men are ensnared at an evil time when it suddenly falls on them. – Ecc 9.12 NASB
#2 We forget that our times are in God’s hands. My times are in your hands; rescue me from the hand of my enemies and from my persecutors. – Ps 31.15 ESV
#3 We plan as if our times belonged to us And now I have a word for you who brashly announce, “Today-at the latest, tomorrow—we’re off to such and such a city for the year. We’re going to start a business and make a lot of money. You don’t know the first thing about tomorrow…
#3 We plan as if our times belonged to us You’re nothing but a wisp of fog, catching a brief bit of sun before disappearing. Instead, make it a habit to say, “If the Master wills it and we’re still alive, we’ll do this or that”…All such vaunting self-importance is evil. – Jam 4.13-17
Reflection: • Do I make the most of my time? • Anong mga nasa planner ko? • Naiisip ko ba na maikli lang ang buhay dito sa lupa? • Am I doing the most important things? • Do I pray that God helps me to make the most of my time? • United ba kami ng asawa ko pagdating sa aming schedule? • Am I open to input about my scheduling?
Challenges • Take time to know the Author of time. • Be a faithful steward of your time
Ch #1: Time with God For many… • Pinakamadaling mapabayaan • Pinaka-namamadali • Pinaka walang accountability
Time & spirituality, Ps 90.12 Teach us to use wisely all the time we have. (CEV) Kaya ituro mo sa amin ang pagbilang ng aming mga kaarawan, upang kami ay mangagtamo sa amin ng pusong may karunungan. (TAB)
Those who don’t have quality time with God usually • Won’t know God’s feelings • Lack growth in the fruit of the Spirit • Are quicker to fall into sin • Find it harder to encourage others
Sobra ba ang hinihingi ng Dios? • Each one has 24 hrs/day or 168 hrs/wk. • Allotting 30mins QT per day = giving God about 2% of your time each day. • Allotting 8 hours a week for church meetings = 4.8% of your time.
First, God. God is the subject of life. God is foundational for living. If we don't have a sense of the primacy of God, we will never get it right, get life right, get our lives right. Not God at the margins; not God as an option; not God on the weekends. God at center and circumference; God first and last; God, God, God." Eugene Peterson
Ch #2: Time well budgeted • Each of us have 24 hrs a day, 8760 hrs a year • The problem is commonly not lack of time but poorly budgeted time (pareho rin sa pera)
Problem: unbudgeted time Adapted fr“Ordering your Private World” by G. MacDonald • Unbudgeted time is spent on unnecessary leisure • Unbudgeted time is spent on all kinds of emergencies • Unbudgeted time goes to things that bring comfort and praise
A ‘side’ discussion The importance of attending midweek (Wed) devotional - some think it’s ‘optional’ - some feel it’s ‘not like Sunday’ - some don’t know what it’s for
Purpose of Sunday & Devo • Services are more focused on praise and preaching (formal assembly) • Devotionals are more focused on teaching and training (informal family) • Both are needed to build and grow the church!
What we do at devotionals • Lesson focused on more practical aspects of Christianity or church needs and issues • Giving of ministry offering, for church operations and missions • Encouragement and acknowledgements • Family sharing time • Announcements; address personal and region concerns; sometimes with Q&A • D-group time – discussion/prayer/bonding EVERYONE IS IMPORTANT AT DEVOTIONAL
Practical items: • Pray and budget your time; use a planner • Know your rhythms • Make a habit of setting goals • Expect God to work in His time
Challenges • Take time to KNOW the AUTHOR of TIME. • Be a faithful STEWARD of your TIME
