What is the IPRTA Forum? • Global initiative launched in March 2004 Start-up funding provided by UK Department for International Development (DFID) • Forum aims to bring together key stakeholders to improve relevance and quality of IPR technical assistance and capacity building and mainstream within development co-operation • Activities include workshops, website, virtual network, issue papers, case studies, toolkits and pilot projects • IPRTA Forum virtual network hosted by Saana Consulting in London, UK with bi-annual conferences

Objectives of the IPRTA Forum • Deepen constructive dialogue on stategic IPRTA issues between a diverse range of developing countries, donors, international organisations and NGOs in an informal environment • Share information on new and existing initiatives related to IPRTA and capacity building in developing countries, and build partnerships among and between key stakeholders • Map out and implement a strategic framework for evolving and mainstreaming IPRTA in development co-operation over the medium term • Catlyse concrete actions and follow-up by stakholders through pilot projects, toolkits and knowledge network

The Medium Term Strategic Framework • A common framework of priority workstreams to guide action by all stakeholders, developed at IPRTA Forum Conference 2006 • Workstream 1: Develop the IPRTA Forum as a open, inclusive global network and knowledge hub for key stakeholders on IPRTA and capacity building in developing countries • Workstream 2: Build the capacity of developing countries to develop and lead broad-based national strategies over the medium term to support IP reforms and capacity building for development • Workstream 3: Address the special needs and challenges of LDCs and responding to WTO TRIPS Council Decision of November 2005
