Fads and Crazes- • Flagpole sitting- people competed for records • Slang- a new vocabulary emerged • Dance marathons- the CHARLESTON! • Games- Ouija boards, crossword puzzles
Another craze in the 1920s was airplane stunts: transfers and wing walking!
Charles Lindbergh flew from NY to Paris in 1927; first solo trans-Atlantic flight. It took him 33 ½ hours. Greatly promoted the new aviation industry.
Sports in the 1920s- • BOXING- Jack Dempsey became a heavyweight champion in 1921. • BASEBALL- Babe Ruth, played for both the Boston Red Sox & New York Yankees • In addition to watching sports, people also participated in recreational activities in greater numbers.
