DSPW 0800 Instructor: Mr. Aaron Roston TPW Chapter 15 DEVELOPING A THESIS THROUGH COMPARE AND CONTRAST
Contrast: Develop a thesis that compares two ideas, examines their differences, and concludes that one is better than the other. I. Compare and Contrast
Contrast to make a point. For example: You want to buy a new car (Motivator) Thesis: You will compare two types of car, and show howthey are different. You will conclude through this comparison which car is better for you to buy. Compare/Contrast: Application
You will be required to use one of these to develop 3 points of comparison: VENN DIAGRAM CAR A CAR B
There are two ways to organize this paper. The first way is to compare by car, like so: Intro=Thesis CAR A Price MPG Maint. CAR B Price MPG Maint. Conclusion=CAR A is better (for you) Methods of Comparison I
The second approach is to organize the comparison according to your points of comparison, like so: Intro=Thesis Price CAR A CAR B MPG CAR A CAR B Maint. CAR A CAR B Conclusion=CAR B is better (for you) This way is better, because it emphasizes relevance. You must use this method (A – B, A – B) for your paper.
