  1. 4 Nephi ZION There Could Not Be a Happier People

  2. 200 years of peace! 4 Ne 1:16 “And there could not be a happier people among all the people who had been created by the hand of God” How did they do it? 4th Nephi covers 275 years in just 49 verses; ¼ of the Book of Mormon’s history.

  3. 4 Nephi • Getting even with a couple of jerks (story)

  4. 4 Nephi A ZionicFamily Skim 4 Nephi 1-17 and look for principles of unity and happiness

  5. 4 Nephi Does your home reflect the type of home you want to raise your children? What would you do the same? What would you do different? What is one thing that you admire about your parents? Share a tool/tip to help improve family relations Do you want your children to turn out like you?

  6. 4 Nephi “The Lord’s prophets have always called for unity…We must seek it and qualify for it with others. “It is not surprising that God urges us to gather so that He can bless us. He wants us to gather into families, classes, and wards, and has commanded us to meet together often. In those gatherings lies our great opportunity for joy.” (President Ryring, “Our Hearts Knit as One,” Ensign or Liahona, Nov. 2008, 68, 69).

  7. 4 Nephi A ZionicFamily vs.2 What percent of your household is converted to the church?

  8. 4 Nephi 1:12 “Being converted and having a testimony are not necessarily the same thing... “A testimony comes when the Holy Ghost gives the earnest seeker a witness of the truth. “Conversionis the fruit or the reward for repentance and obedience.” “Stated simply, true conversion is the fruit of faith, repentance, and consistent obedience. … “True conversion yields the fruit of enduring happiness that can be enjoyed even when the world is in turmoil” (Elder Richard G. Scott, “Full Conversion Brings Happiness,” Ensign, May 2002, 25, 26).

  9. 4 Nephi A ZionicFamily vs.2 What percent of your household is converted to the church? vs.2 How many arguments occur in your family each day?

  10. 4 Nephi “I read somewhere of a young couple who settled in the wilderness. While the man cleared the land, his wife tended things about the homestead. Occasionally, the cow would get into the garden, and the husband would complain. One day, as he left to get supplies, he said in a sarcastic way, "Do you think you'll be able to keep the cow in while I am gone?" She thought she could; she would try. That night a terrible storm arose. Frightened by thunder, the cow escaped into the woods. Several days later the husband returned to an empty cabin and an apologetic note: "A storm came up, and the cow got out. I am so sorry, but I think I can find her." He searched; neither had survived…

  11. 4 Nephi “The author concluded the incident with these words: Boys flying kites haul in their white‑winged birds; You can call back your kites, but you can't call back your words. "Careful with fire" is good advice, we know; "Careful with words" is ten times doubly so. Thoughts unexpressed will often fall back dead. But God Himself can't kill them, once they are said!” (Elder Boyd K. Packer, quoting Will Carelton, The First Settler's Story).

  12. 4 Nephi A ZionicFamily vs.2 What percent of your household is converted to the church? vs.2 How many arguments occur in your family each day? vs.5 Has your family experienced the power of the Priesthood? vs.10 Is your family good at math? vs.11-12 Are your parents happily married? Do you look forward to marriage? Does your family have Family Home Evening? Family prayer? Attend church? vs.17 Are there bitter feelings between any members of your family? Is your family united?

  17. Pride works in two directions

  18. “Pride is sinful … because it breeds hatred or hostility and places us in opposition to God and our fellowmen. At its core, pride is a sin of comparison, for though it usually begins with ‘Look how wonderful I am and what great things I have done,’ it always seems to end with ‘Therefore, I am better than you.’ “When our hearts are filled with pride, we commit a grave sin, for we violate the two great commandments. Instead of worshipping God and loving our neighbor, we reveal the real object of our worship and love—the image we see in the mirror.” (“Pride and the Priesthood,” Ensign or Liahona, Nov. 2010, 56).

  19. What would pride look like in a Sunday School class? What would pride look like in Seminary? What would pride look like in Family Scripture Study?
