  2. What is Manual Handling? • Moving a load by hand or bodily force: • Lifting • Putting down • Pushing • Pulling • Carrying

  3. Three things to always remember! 1 - Always use mechanical methods if possible e.g. • Forklifts • Levers • Trolleys

  4. Three things to always remember! 2 - Know what YOU can handle! • Check the weight before you lift • Ask for assistance if you need it • Carry out a check: rock the load from side to side, then try lifting a small amount

  5. Three things to always remember! 3 - Look around you • Is there good lighting? • Are there obstacles in your path (steps, changes in levels, floors) • Weather – rain, wind, heat
