There have been a great number of zoom meetings, symposiums and online conferenceswhereIndigenousInclusionisthetopicoftheday!IknowbecauseIhave attendedmany of them. I sign up hoping to find someone or some organization that is committed to putting themselves out there in an effort to make real change. I commend those who do organizeandtrytokeeptheconversationgoing.WithoutthemIsuspectthepotentialfor realchange diminishes.There is howevera need todo more! IndigenousInclusion,the“textbookdefinition”: IndigenousInclusionisaboutbuildingandfosteringrelationshipswithIndigenous peoplewithothercultures.Itisaboutcreatingarespectfulenvironmenttoexplore,

  2. learn,andcommunicatewithacommunitythathasbeenunder-representedforalong timein history. Bringingthisonestepforwardwecanintroduceeconomicinclusion. EconomicInclusion,the“textbookdefinition”: Economicinclusion,theopeningupofeconomicopportunitiestounder-servedsocial groups! Recentlyawell-respectedIndigenousbusinessleaderwhowasspeakingvia Zoom,challengedtheattendeestogooutsidetheeco-systemtheycreated.Yousee, the attendees are all too familiar with themselves. The same group of like-minded peopleseemtogather,timeand timeagaintotalkanddiscuss thesametopic. Hischallengeresonatedwithmebecauseitwasnotthefirsttime,Ihadheardit.Infact, I have heard it many times in the council chambers of First Nations across the country, atAssemblymeetingsin almosteverycity inthiscountryand withinthehalls of Parliament.Infact,it’soneofthemainreasonsIbuilttheeconomicinclusionnetwork, Itstimeforchange.ca. With a single Indigenous partner and a group of people who believed we could effect realchange,webeganourjourneytobuildaholisticsolutionaddressingtheeconomic inequalitiesIndigenouspeoples,theircommunitiesandtheirbusinessesface. Today,wearethenumberonereferralbyGooglewhensearchingIndigenouseconomic inclusionplatform,theveryspaceweknow wemustbein.Weaddress theneedto identify job opportunities for Indigenous peoples, create procurement opportunities and partnershipsthatexpandthecapacityofallpartiesinvolved.Wehavecreatedanonline economy where Indigenous peoples can share their knowledge and insights with employersin their back yardand across the country. Wedidthiswithoutonedimeofgovernmentmoney,wedidthisbecauseit’stheright thingto do! Iamaskingyoutogooutsideofyoureco-system, effectrealchangeandsharethispost andthe references tothe platform andtake action. IndigenousInclusionrequiresbroadbasedparticipationfromallCanadians!
