Here is an opportunity to learn strategies that will help you de-stress, get control of your anger and enjoy being a parent. Wednesdays September 20-October 11 6-7:30 p.m. Parenting Your Challenging Teenager Teen age rebellion is normal: arguing, talking back, and trying to bend the rules in their favor. Conflict is expected but you can limit your stress and increase your effectiveness by trying several proven approaches. Also learn from other parents who deal with the same issues. Tuesdays, October 3-31 6:00-8:00 p.m. Bullying Help your child develop skills that can prevent them from becoming a victim. Learn who the bully is and why they bully. For Parents Only. Complimentary child care available. Wednesday, September 13 5:30 p.m. Self-Esteem, Social Skills Struggles with self-esteem and social skills can be traumatic for a child. Help your child by learning the 10 important “gifts” you can give to him. The children’s class will include activities that will enhance their self-esteem and social skills. Mondays, September 18 & 25 5:30 p.m.

  2. Stress INSIDE STRESS:September 11 & 25 Mondays at 6 p.m. Daily we face stress within our own families. Learn new skills that will help you cope with the stresses of raising a family. OUTSIDE STRESS:October 23 & 30 Mondays at 6 p.m. The stress level heightens when outside circumstances surround you. Other family members such as in-laws, former spouses and significant others that have opinions on how you should raise your children. Learn how to stand for your beliefs and yet be respectful. COMMUNITY STRESS:November 13 & 27 Mondays at 6 p.m. What do you do when the doctors, teachers and neighbors expect you to educate and discipline your children a certain way? Or you can’t get a straight answer from doctors or attorneys? The community around us has their own expectations for our children. Learn how to cope with stress from our society. Call for details. Defiant Child This class focuses on managing child behavior problems, particularly noncompliance, by educating parents and providing skills necessary to increase family harmony. FOR PARENTS OF CHILDREN AGES 2-12 Mondays December 4 & 11 5:30 p.m. Kids Managing Anger FOR KIDS AND PARENTS For children ages 5-12 and their parents. What do you do with your frustrations? When does your anger become hurtful to you and others? Learn to deal with anger and frustrations before hurting ourselves or another person. Parents will meet with a facilitator while the children are in their sessions. Adults may participate without child attending. Mondays October 2-23 5:30-7 p.m. Parenting Piece by Piece By recognizing personal strengths, parents will develop the skills necessary to be effective, nurturing parents. Topics will include building nurturing relationships, positive discipline and understanding yourself and your child better. Mondays, November 6-27 5:30 p.m. Parenting Class in Spanish Do you have a family member who would enjoy a parenting class but are unable to understand or communicate well in English? Carla, an expert on parenting skills and an employee of Waukesha County Health and Human Resources, will be teaching a parent class in Spanish. Come join us. September 13-November 15 Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. Child care available. The Undisciplined Child Chuck, a therapist within our community, will guide you by teaching helpful skills that will create successful relationships for you and your child. Develop new skills by actually practicing new techniques. During the first and final classes, your children will attend the parent class. October 12-9, Thursdays at 6 p.m.

  3. Postpartum Depression Postpartum depression is common and treatable. Having postpartum depression does not mean that you’re not a good mom. Come join us as we discuss topics such as: *feeling overwhelmed, crying a lot *doubting your ability to be a good mother *afraid of hurting the baby or oneself *not having an interest in the baby *withdrawal from friends and family *no energy *changed eating habits Wednesdays, November 1 & 8 at 6 p.m. ADD/ADHD Educational/Support Group with Child’s Component Class You will gain support, skills taught by experts and lessons from other parents who are going through similar experiences. Come join us once a month for enriched groups. \ Featured Topics CESA: An expert from CESA will show you how to be an advocate for your child within the school system. CESA supports the parents and has many resources available. Thursday, September 21, 6:00 STRATEGIES: A therapist from Family Services will provide strategies and effective discipline for home and other environments. Wednesday, October 18, 6:00 p.m. MEDICATION: Listen to an expert on the benefits and side effects of stimulant medication. Thursday, November 16, 6:30 p.m. NUTRITION: Listen to an expert discuss the benefits and options in diet plans for your child. Thursday, December 7, 5:30-7:00 p.m. Survival Guide for Parents of Infants and Toddlers The early years can be the most demanding. Join experts in the area of social, physical, medical and emotional development. Learn the latest on bed-time routine, potty training, SIDS, tantrums, discipline and how to make the best of this stage. Also sharing time with other young parents. Wednesdays, October 4-18 5:30 p.m. A different professional is scheduled for each Wednesday night to discuss a variety of topics. Tuesday/Wednesday Playgroup Parents, Grandparents and primary caretakers are welcome to join us! 9:30-11 a.m. Call for registration. Calming the Volcano in the Explosive Child Why do our children’s behaviors erupt in an explosive fashion when we least expect it? Trying to understand what is beneath the surface of the explosions can be complicated. Learn skills by understanding the “Volcano Theory” that can help your child manage the volcano within. Tuesdays, November 7-28, 6:00 p.m. The Challenging Child Are you frustrated because your discipline techniques aren’t working, the family friction is increasing and your child’s self-esteem is plummeting? Discover a fresh start at the most important role in your life-that of a parent. Learn skills that work on virtually every behavior when used consistently. Tuesday, December 5, 6:00 p.m.

Parenting Through Depression A Free Program for Parents and Children Join us the 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month at 5:30-7:30 p.m. for a family meal and a safe place to share your concerns on parenting. Explore successful parenting techniques and the resources available to parents coping with depression and other mental health issues. THE CHILD’S COMPONENT Children, ages 5 and up, have the opportunity to meet in a separate group the second and fourth Thursday of each month and share experiences, make new friends and gain new coping skills through art and play therapy.
