Efficiency Maine Presented by: Chris Simpson, Director Energy Programs Division Tim Vrabel, Deputy Director Efficiency Maine May 14, 2008
Efficiency Maine Goals The Efficiency Maine program is administered by the Maine Public Utilities Commission and is funded by Maine electricity consumers In order to: • Increase consumer awareness of cost-effective options for conserving energy • Create more favorable market conditions for the increased use of energy efficient products and services • Promote sustainable development and reduced environmental impact • Reduce the cost of electricity over time for all consumers by achieving reductions in Demand for electricity peak periods • Reduce total energy costs for electricity customers in the State by increasing the efficiency with which electricity is consumed
Efficiency Maine Programs Efficiency Maine has programs for almost all electric customers: • Large and small business • Residential assistance (for lighting and appliances) • Low income families • Maine schools (High Performance Schools Program for new school construction) • Training and certification for facility managers and operators • Education curriculum for schools • Homeowners
Efficiency Maine Programs LD 1851: A revision to program participant eligibility • After July 1, 2007, customers receiving electric service at transmission and subtransmission levels are not eligible for new projects offered by Efficiency Maine. • These customers not required to pay the assessment, and their rates were reduced by .0145 cents per kilowatt-hour.
