  2. Objectives • Recognize the main nullifiers of fasting. • Appreciate the fasting rules for the sick. • Understand how a broken fast can be made up.

  3. The nullifiers of siyam are those acts that break fast and render it void . • There are two procedures to make up for the missed Days of fasting : • QADAA---It means make up. It refers to a fast that it made in place of one that is broken intentionally . • KAFFARA--- it is a penalty for missing a day of fasting in a certain manner .

  4. Eating and drinking— • Deliberate eating ,drinking and substance consuming { medicine, smoking, drugs etc}break fasting. these actions done nullify the fast if done willfully. • If a person eats or drinks forgetfully or accidentally or forced to do it , the fasting will stay intact .

  5. Intentional Vomiting— • Abu Hurayrah reported that the Prophet (S) said “whoever is overcomes and vomits is not to make up the day . Whoever vomits intentionally must make up the day . • Sexual Intercourse-- • just like eating and drinking , sexual relations invalidate one’s fast . • أُحِلَّ لَكُمْ لَيْلَةَ الصِّيَامِ الرَّفَثُ إِلَىٰ نِسَائِكُمْ ۚ هُنَّ لِبَاسٌ لَكُمْ وَأَنْتُمْ لِبَاسٌ لَهُنَّ ۗ • Permitted to you, on the night of the fast, is the approach to your wives. They are your garments and you are their garments.

  6. Sexual intercourse not only breaks the fast but also requires the two partners to offer a (kaffarah) • The kaffarah is a penalty on the person who breaks their fast intentionally ., • The kaffarah is to do one of the following actions : • A-releasing a slave , • B-fasting 60 consecutive days • C-feeding sixty needy individuals

Medical injections • Injections containing nourishment • When a seriously ill person cannot eat food or keep it in their stomach , doctors advice that nourishment must be injected into the veins . • This injection reaches the blood stream then it breaks the fast . Since it is being used in place of food and drink .

  8. Other Medical Injections- • Medical injections taken in the arm or the hip do not in validate the fast . • nose , ear and eye drops can also be taken during the fast without a problem . • Regular medicine- • medicine taken through the mouth into the stomach like pills or syrup invalidate the fast
