Manpower situation

This report provides an update on the manpower situation and current computing projects since the last review. Key personnel changes include Peter Clarke's role as deputy computing project leader and the addition of Philippe Ghez as a webmaster focusing on website improvements. Renato Santana is involved in training for GEOC crisis areas. The report highlights ongoing staffing challenges and critical support needs for various technical areas, some of which remain severely under-resourced since 2011. News since last time • See attached spreadsheet • Peter Clarke (Edinburgh) • Deputy computing project leader since 1st September • 0.5 FTE computing operations coordinator • Philippe Ghez (Annecy) • 0.3 FTE “webmaster” • Actually: reviewing computing web and exploring possible improvements in content, navigability, maintenance • Renato Santana (PJAS, CBPF Rio) • ~ 0.6 FTE training as GEOC

  3. Crisis areas • Areas completely unmanned in 2011 • Code and release management • User and environment support • Production management • Areas seriously under manned in 2011 • Simulation and generators framework • Software framework support • Most of above already critical in 2010

  4. Solutions? • New funding highly unlikely • Possibility to support ~1 project associate at CERN • Repeat call for additional contributions • Perhaps recent crises have better highlighted the problem?
