Toowoomba City • The Garden City of Australia • About 1.5 hour driving distance from Brisbane, capital of Queensland. • Current Job capital of Australia with more mining on • Population is around 150,000 • Over 1000 are Muslims. • A20% growth of Muslims in the city in the recent 2012 census. • No Mosque in Toowoomba or Lockyer Valley and Darling Downs regions Toowoomba Masjid

Muslims in Toowoomba • Islamic Society of Toowoomba Inc (IST) established in 1994. • Incorporated/registered with the Queensland Government. • IST is a member of the • Islamic Council of Queensland (ICQ) based in Brisbane, and • Australian Federation of Islamic Councils (AFIC), the peak body of all Muslims in Australia. • First Eid Prayers in our backyard with 10-12 Muslims. • Around 800 adult Muslims in last Eid Prayers. • Over 300 Muslims pray Jumaa on Fridays. • IST has decided to purchase a property with two churches to use as a Masjid. No Masjid in Toowoomba • The nearest Mosque is in Brisbane (120km). • All Muslims in the city/region worship in a temporary facility provided by the USQ which is old and inadequate to meet the current and future needs. • Muslims are in an urgent need for a Mosque of their own. • IST, a government registered non-profit Islamic organisation, has decided to purchase a property to meet the growing need of a Mosque in the city. • IST has initiated a major fundraising at home and abroad.
