  2. Rules for solving 2-step Equations • Always do addition and subtraction first • Then do multiplication and division second

  3. In other words 2x + 12 = 32 -12-12 2x . = 20 2 2 x = 10

  4. Let’s check • 2x + 12 = 32 • x = 10 • So, 2x + 12 = 32 • 2(10) + 12 = 32 • 20 + 12 = 32 • 32 = 32 YES!!! • So, x=10 is the correct answer!

  5. Solve 4x + 13 = 37 -13 -13 4x = 24 4 4 x = 6

  6. Let’s check • 4x + 13 = 37 • x = 6 • So, 4x + 13 = 37 • 4(6) + 13 = 37 • 24 + 13 = 37 • 37 = 37 YES!!! • So, x=6 is the correct answer!

  7. Let’s try again. 3x + (-14) = -29 +14 +14 3x = -15 3 3 x = -5

  8. Are you correct? • 3x + (-14) = -29 • x = -5 • So, 3x + (-14) = -29 • 3(-5) + (-14) = • -15 + (-14) = • -29 = -29 YES !!! • So, x=-5 is the correct answer!
