  3. Displayed is the initial page of the Intech website. Note the BROWSE BY SUBJECT option with Life Sciences and Health Sciences topics.

  4. The Medicine listing with numerous subheadings has been displayed. For access, click on the book title or cover.

  5. To view a specific chapter, click on Open Access. Note that this is a commercial publisher that sells hard copies of the books.

  6. For each chapter, note the DOWNLOAD AS PDF option.

  7. Enter water pollution in the search box.

  8. Results from this keyword search are 4020 links to the INTECH titles. Note the Paper, Author and Book (Type) listing.

  9. The Open Textbook Library provides a growing catalog of free, peer-reviewed, and openly-licensed e-textbooks - that can be freely used, adapted and distributed. It is supported by the Center for Open Education and the Open Textbook Network.

  10. From the initial page, note the Browse Subjects list which includes Medicine and Natural Sciences – that contains basic sciences textbooks. Other disciplines at a University also will find this resource useful. For example, the Social Sciences list has several Psychology related e-textbooks.

  11. Using the keyword search box, a Medicine search resulted in 9books (as of 2018 02). Over time, the e-textbooks from this source will increase. The Library includes a keyword search tool.

  12. Another excellent source of E-books for health practitioners in low-income countries is the Hesperian Health Guides. From this page, there is the option to download chapters of each book. The books are geared toward primary health care and are in several languages.

  13. When attempting to download a book, this page will display. You must download the material chapter by chapter.

  14. We have opened Where There is No Doctor. You can view the contents chapter by chapter. Chapter 2 has been downloaded.

  15. The National Academies Press grants free access to all its electronic books. Opened is the BROWSE BY TOPIC listing. Titles in the Health and Medicine and Food & Nutrition topics are relevant.

  16. We have opened the Health and Medicine topicspage.. Note also the keyword search box.

  17. We have completed a pregnancy and complications search. The books are displayed by most current publication date and each has a downloadable PDF version.

  18. To download a book you must Log in to MyNAP. Registration is free via the Create a Free MyNAP Account link or you can use the Download as Guest option.

  19. From www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/ or the link from the Databases drop down menu, highlight/click on Books database. The NCBI Books search option is displayed.

  20. A search for pregnancy complications has been completed in the NCBI Bookshelf The Summary search by relevance contains 4749 items (reports, documents, databases ebooks) and 839 ebooks. Note the link to the Table of Contents.

  21. Now opened is the Hypertension in Pregnancy e-book. Open the 1.1 Key priorities for Implementation chapter.

  22. The text for this subchapter is listed with links to other (keyword) topics. The PDF version of this title can be downloaded. Also, there is a link to other titles in this collection.

What is Global IRIS? • ‘Global IRIS’, the WHO digital library, contain shared documents from HQ (Geneva), AFRO, AMRO, EURO, EMRO and SEARO. • Included are the full-text of numerous published documents including policies, reports and research outcomes (equivalent of WHO e-books) • PAHO and WPRO host their own instances of IRIS but their content is harvest weekly into global IRIS. • Content from PAHO and WPRO are synchronized with Global IRIS” on a weekly basis.

  24. We have opened the main page of the WHO website. Click on Publications – to access the global WHO digital library (IRIS).

  25. Now click on IRIS – to Browse the WHO Digital Library.

  26. Displayed is the main page of Global IRIS). Note the search box and that you can limit (refine) a search to a specific region or headquarters in Geneva.

  27. Opened is the Communities and Collections page - that lists the contributors to WHO Digital Library.

  28. Completed is a search for hepatitis with 7279 results. You can refine your search by author and subject/organization. Most of the results have links to full-text documents. Initially, the oldest material is listed first although there are various sort options.

  29. Another useful option is to use the Browse by Subject option which uses the MeSH (Medical Subject Headings) vocabulary. Note the 127 results for the Browsing by Subject Papua New Guinea search.
