Faceted search • Keyword search: Allows users to enter any number of words and shows the results as a list of titles in a certain order. • Advanced search: Exposes much of metadata to user in the form of checkboxes and drop-down lists. All facet selections are ANDed together.

Faceted categories • Clustering refers to the grouping of items according to some measure of similarity. • Advantages: • Fully automatable. • Can be easily applied to any text collection. • Reveal new trends in a group of documents. • Disadvantages: • Presentation is hardly ideal • Different levels of granularity Marti A.
