The project goal is to design, build, and evaluate a modular cooling system that incorporates a GORE-TEX® membrane filter and maintains the temperature and relative humidity inside an outdoor electronics enclosure. • Key Features of Prototype • Heat Dissipation – Dissipates 1000W of heat • Lifetime/corrosion –Cooling Air RH below 70% • Unique • Only product in market utilizing GORE-TEX membrane filtration technology • Only Open System • Low Adaptation Rate • Design is modular • Operating Noise level < 20db • Simplicity - Easy filter replacement • Current Market Competition Only Closed Systems such as: • Air Conditioners (A/C) • Heat Exchangers (HEX) Prototype Validation • Limitations of Closed Systems • A/C are bulky, expensive, and consume large amounts of power • HEX have reached upper limit of performance • Testing Objective • Test system to prove proper module operation. Valve www.danterm.com – Current HEX Technology • Advantage of our “SMART” Open System • Only product using GORE-TEX® membrane filtration technology • Heat dissipation using ambient air • Size is small and design is modular • Cost efficient compared to A/C and HEX Electronic Cabinet Filter PLC Key Customer Wants Fan Modular Unit 2. Use lab to simulate room temperature conditions 3. Simulate extreme conditions to find system limits • System Operation • The Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) collects and uses sensor data to adjust the fan, valve, and heaters to manipulate the temperature and relative humidity of the air inside the electronic enclosure. • SYSTEMHOT: Create an open system Lowering Heater Output, Bring in Cool Ambient Air, and Increase Fan Speed • SYSTEMCOLD: Create a closed system Recirculate Warm Air, Decrease Fan Speed, and Turn on Heaters Accomplished Target Specs • Small Modular Size (0.219m3) • Low Power Consumption (347 W) • Meets 1000 W Heat Dissipation • Unique Open System Design • Relative Humidity is maintained <80% to ensure long lifetime.
