  10. The Grade 12 Program Grade 10-12 • 80 credits required for Graduation • 48 credits are Required Courses • 4 Credits – Grad Transition Assessment • 28 credits are Elective Courses • Minimum 4 “Grade 12” including En12/Com12

  11. Graduation Transitions • 30 hours of work exposure, paid or unpaid, (from summer after gr. 10) • 150 minutes of physical activity (both gr. 11 & 12) • Transition Plan – outlines post-secondary plans • Exit Interview • 4 credits, mandatory Requirements can be: exceeded, met, or not met

  12. Provincial Exams • Grade 10 English, Science, and Math • Grade 11 Social Studies • Grade 12 English or Comm.12 • All other grade 12 provincial exams are optional (should be discussed with an advisor)

  16. Honour Roll • Student must be enrolled in 8 courses (can be non-graded). • Honour Roll is calculated on students’ best 6 ‘graded’ credit courses • Fewer than 6 credit courses in grade 12 jeopardizes Honour Roll, Gold Cord, and Internal Scholarship eligibility

BC Admission Requirements (UBC, SFU, UVIC) • Grade 11 Requirements (Arts)= English, Social Studies, Science, Mathematics, (Language*) • Grade 11 Requirements (Science) = Same as above but must have physics & chemistry • Grade 12 Subject Requirements Arts – English + 3 Academics Business – English + Math + 2 other Engineering – English + Math + Chemistry + Physics Sciences – English + Math + 1 or 2 sciences + (1 other)

ESL Requirements • ESL students who have not studied here for 3 or 4 years may be required to write TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) or equivalent • Check the PSI’s requirements and register to write the exam early as test sittings fill up quickly. • Some schools will not accept your application without a TOEFL

Canadian Admission Time Line • Some schools will look at grade 11 results and make an offer by the beginning of Dec. • Otherwise apply in Nov./Dec. • Self report term #1 marks or send transcript in mid Dec. • Most BC school’s deadline is Feb.28 • Many Ont/Que school’s deadline is Feb.01 • Supplementary applications generally Mar. • End of Mar. self report or send 2nd term mark • Most offers made from mid Apr – mid May

Rockridge Only Scholarships To receive a Rockridge Scholarship, you must have excellent attendance, document school service, be in good standing, and be enrolled in 8 courses including Grad Transitions. Six courses must be graded courses. Blended learning included. Term 2 marks are used for Gold Cords at Commencement: (Honour Roll or Honours With Distinction)

Dogwood District Authority Awards • Purpose: Recognize Excellence in Chosen Specialty / Field • Eligibility & Criteria: • Fine Arts – Applied Skills – Physical Activity – Second Languages • $500 award & $500 PSI tuition voucher • Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident • Applications due April 15th to RR

Provincial Scholarship • New Name: Grade 12 Grad Program Exam Scholarship • Purpose: Recognize Academic Achievement on Provincial Exams • Eligibility & Criteria: • Must earn at least a “B” in Eng or Comm 12 • Based on “best 3 Provincial Exam Scores (86% or higher)” • Top 5000 students across BC = $1000 • Top 20 students = $2500

APCourses & Provincial Scholarships $1,000 Provincial Scholarship= 3 provincial exam marks over 86% AP mark of 5 =96% AP mark of 4 = 86% If a student gets a 4 or 5 in any AP course it counts equal to a provincial exam. This includes ART and CALCULUS which do not have provincial exams. Example: EN 86% Biology 84% Math 90% AP Calculus 4 =86% or AP Art 5 = 96%

  43. A Success Story • At Commencement 2009, our Grads received 75 scholarships: a $49,000 value • many were funded by the Rockridge Scholarship Committee and other community sources • In addition, many students received entrance scholarships and private scholarships.

  44. PSI Scholarships • Awarded by the post secondary institutions • Type #1 – Application Required (varying deadlines) • Type #2 – Entrance Scholarship (marks based – no application) • 80% - 100% (5% increments depending on PSI)
