  3. iHymn of Invocation“Oh the Wonderful Cross”https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UXaLgqMj88s

  4. InvocationPlease Stand P In the name of the Father and of the + Son and of the Holy Spirit. (Matthew 28:19b)C Amen

  5. Confession & Absolution P If we say we have no sin we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. C But if we confess our sins, God, who is faithful and just, will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (1 John 1:8-9) Silence for reflection on God's Word and for self-examination.

  6. P Let us then confess our sins to God our Father. C Most merciful God, we confess that we are by nature sinful and unclean. We have sinned against You in thought, word, and deed. We have not loved You with our whole heart. We have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We justly deserve Your present and eternal punishment. For the sake of Your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us, forgive us, renew us, and lead us, so that we may delight in Your will and walk in Your way to the glory of Your holy name. Amen.

  7. P Almighty God, in His mercy, has given His Son to die for you; and for His sake God forgives you all your sins. As a called and ordained servant of Christ, at his command and by his authority, I forgive you all your sins in the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. (Matthew 16:19, 28:19; John 20:22-23) C Amen.

  8. Introit 1 Corinthians 1:18-20, 24-25 P For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, C but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. P For it is written, C “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and the discernment of the discerning I will thwart.”

  9. P For Jews demand signs and Greeks seek wisdom, C but we preach Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and folly to Gentiles, P but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. C Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now and shall be forever. Amen. P For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, C but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.

  10. Salutation &Collect of the Day P The Lord be with you. (2 Timothy 4:22)C And also with you. P Let us pray. Almighty God, as a reminder of Your love, as an icon of Christ’s sacrifice, let us ever look only to the cross for our salvation; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. C Amen.

  11. Old Testament LessonNumbers 21:4–9 P From Mount Hor they set out by the way to the Red Sea, to go around the land of Edom. And the people became impatient on the way. And the people spoke against God and against Moses, C “Why have you brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? For there is no food and no water, and we loathe this worthless food.”

  12. P Then the LORD sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the people, so that many people of Israel died. And the people came to Moses and said, C “We have sinned, for we have spoken against the LORD and against you. Pray to the LORD, that he take away the serpents from us.” P So Moses prayed for the people. And the LORD said to Moses, “Make a fiery serpent and set it on a pole, and everyone who is bitten, when he sees it, shall live.” So Moses made a bronze serpent and set it on a pole. And if a serpent bit anyone, he would look at the bronze serpent and live.

  13. P This is the Word of the Lord. C Thanks be to God. P Please stand for the Gospel Preparation and the reading of the Holy Gospel according to St. John. Please Stand

  14. Gospel Preparation P Behold the Lamb of God! C Who takes away the sin of the world.

  15. Holy Gospel John 12:24-26, 32–33 P Amen, Amen, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit. Whoever loves his life loses it, and whoever hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life.

  16. P If anyone serves me, he must follow me; and where I am, there will my servant be also. If anyone serves me, the Father will honor him. “Now is my soul troubled. And what shall I say? ‘Father, save me from this hour’? But for this purpose I have come to this hour. And I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all people to myself.” He said this to show by what kind of death he was going to die. P This is the Gospel of the Lord. C Praise to You, O Christ.

  17. Apostles CreedLord, in the face of danger and uncertainty, amidst fear and doubt, strengthen us in our belief of what You have done. I believe in God the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell;

  18. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father almighty. From thence He shall come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit; the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.Please be seated
