Personal Background • Early exposure to math and technology • Careers had math applications • High School math instructor • Short-term goal: Teaching Credential • Long-term goal: Counselor
Multi-Media & Animation Technologies Incorporated in Engineering Systems (MATIES) Lab • Animation and 3D Visualization of Space Telescope • Modeling of large structures • 3D Animation of Telescope • Design of User-Friendly Graphic Interface
Skills Acquired • MS Excel • MS PowerPoint • Technical Writing
Technologies Learned • 3D Studio Max 5.0 • Generates a 3D Model • Utilizes Animation • Visual C++ • Construction of Graphic User Interface (GUI) Design • OpenGL • Animation of 2D and 3D Figures
Initial Projects • Replication of a Water Bottle (Example #1) • Creation of a 3D Room (Example #2)
3D Animation in Geometry Curriculum Abstract To implement 3D animation in the geometry curriculum in order to facilitate students’ identification and comprehension of fundamental geometric concepts.
Concepts Examined • 3D Shapes (Identification) • Surface Area • Edges • Faces • Volume
Proposed Future Projects • Exploration of Spatial Relationships • “Project: Dream House” (expanded) • To aid in students’ visualization of a 3D structure and transfer that knowledge into a 2D floorplan. • To assist students in constructing a 3d model based on their 2D design.
