So these chronologists have miscounted the years of the world. They either say that there is a "zeroth" year, which does not make any sense, since we don't count the days of the week 0 to 6, or they imply Adam was age-1 on the day he was born, which isn't the truth either. The matches that I provided so far do not mean a whole lot. Enoch may have been born in the seventh year and Methuselah in the Jubilee, but there is a 50% chance that their births fell in the half of the year that does not match at all. We need a strong historical allusion to a match in the scripture. The statement that Enoch is the "seventh from Adam" is not such an allusion, nor is the fact that Methuselah was the longest lived man justification for regarding a match as confirmation of the chronology. This last match loses many chronologists inclined to imitate the Rabbis. They assume that Abraham was born when Terah was 70. However, two other sons are listed next to Abraham that could have been born at the 70 year age, Nahor, and Haran. Also, the biblical genealogical method lists the most important sons first, and not necessarily the first born. This is proven by precedent with Noah's sons Shem, Ham, and Japheth. Ham was the youngest son (Gen. 9:24), and Japheth was older than Shem, because Shem was 100 years old 2 years after the flood (Gen. 11:10). Shem was therefore born when Noah was 502. This precedent shows that when multiple sons are listed next to the birth year, the data cannot be used for a match. The needed information must be obtained elsewhere.

We follow the principle that God meant to obscure key links, but not that He meant to put it beyond solution.

The first trip was in the spring of the 1st year when the land failed to produce a harvest. They would have bought food for one whole year, hoping that the land would produce in the spring of the next year. In the spring of the second year, the land did not produce, and this is when their food was running out. So at the turn of the spring year, when Jacob turned age-130, they made the second trip. 130 Jacob goes to Egypt.

The remainder of 2 says that the 2nd year of the agricultural cycle begins in 2298. The account of Joseph and the famine is the historical prototype or pattern that gives the foundation for the regulations in the Law. It was a fair exchange, but Joseph graciously returns the land to the Egyptians with the arrangement that they pay two tithes (20%) to the sovereign of the land. In this case, Pharaoh was the sovereign. However, the timing is perfect, since it appears that this is the prototype for the Law's legislation concerning the Jubilee. In the Jubilee, the land is returned to each family, however, there are two tithes that must be paid to the Sovereign LORD. Abraham's "seed" begins with Isaac. Isaac and Jacob were strangers in Canaan and Egypt for 400 years. God did not give them the land yet, because the sins of the Amorites were not complete. The land in vs. 13 is both the land of Canaan and Egypt. Isaac was afflicted by Ishmael as soon as he was born.. The four generations in Egypt are 1) Jacob, 2) Levi, 3) Jochebed, 4) Moses, since Moses' mother was the daughter of Levi. 13     And he said unto Abram, Know of a surety that thy seed shall be a stranger in a land that is not theirs, and shall serve them; and they shall afflict them four hundred years; 14     (And also that nation, whom they shall serve, will I judge: and afterward shall they come out with great substance. 15     And thou shalt go to thy fathers in peace; thou shalt be buried in a good old age. 16     But in the fourth generation they shall come hither again: for the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet full.)
