Supported Clients • COM class proxy “glue” • 4GL GUI • 4GL AppServer • Applications can be physically partitioned • All other COM • VB, ASP etc • Java Servlets, JSP, EJB
Supported Servers • Any COM Automation Server • 4GL AppServer • Applications can be physically partitioned • All EDBC databases • All Enterprise Access (EAS) databases • Ingres
Objections Revisited • “It won’t work for us. It can only work for green field sites” • Empirical evidence to the contrary • “Great strategy, but we need to deliver yesterday” • Get quick tactical wins built within a solid strategic application architecture
Objections Revisited • “Sounds good but my boss/company… • Won’t pay for the rewrite • Won’t wait for the rewrite • There is no major rewrite • Won’t train new programmers • There is no major rewrite • Wants to use Bongo3 instead • Use it as well – as a client or a data provider • Doesn’t want to fix something that is not broken • Leave existing apps alone – supplement and steal functionality • Won’t believe/understand it !!!” (in all likelihood) • Prove it with a safe proof-of-concept • Web-enable MIS enquiries/reports
Go ahead and do it! • Start with a simple proof-of-concept • Tactical quick win, solid strategic architecture • “Web enable” existing Advantage Ingres data • Address new reporting requirements with Advantage OpenROAD AppServer modules • Enable new and disparate client technologies • “Unlock the value” in existing data and 4GL applications • Reuse existing ABF and Advantage OpenROAD 4GL logic
