  1. No Calculator Trig Functions & SOH CAH TOA By: Brandon SteinhilberMadalynnKrutzik Megan Allar

  2. When is it used? • Used with Right Triangles ONLY • Used to find missing angles and/or missing sides • Doesn’t always require a calculator

  3. SOH CAH TOA Sine Opposite Hypotenuse Cosine Adjacent Hypotenuse Tangent Opposite Adjacent

  5. Special Triangles • No calculator needed to find side lengths/angles with special triangles. • Special triangles are: 45°, 45°, 90°and 30°, 60°, 90°.

  6. Special Triangles Are Used When • the denominator is 6, then the angle is 30°. • the denominator is 3, then the angle is 60°. • the denominator is 4, then the angle is 45°.

  7. π/2 • If the denominator is 1 or 2, then use the corresponding points to find the answer (0,1) Cos=x Sin=y Tan=y/x π (-1,0) (1,0) 2π (0,-1) 3π/2

  8. 45-45-90 Triangle Trig Functions 45° (π/4)Trig Functions Sin = 1/√2 Csc=√2/1 Cos = 1/√2 Sec= √2/1 Tan = 1/1Cot= 1/1 π/4 π/4

  9. 30-60-90 Triangle Trig Functions 30° (π/6)Trig Functions Sin=1/2Csc=2/1 Cos=√3/2 Sec=2/√3 Tan=1/√3 Cot=√3/1 60° (π/3)Trig Functions Sin= √3/2 Csc= 2/√3 Cos=1/2Sec=2/1 Tan=√3/1 Cot=1/√3 π/6 π/3 http://www.onlinemathlearning.com/trigonometry-special-angles.html

  10. This is used to find out whether the answer is positive or negative by dividing the numerator by the denominator and excluding pi, and finding the quadrant it’s in. http://planetmath.org/DeterminingSignsOfTrigonometricFunctions.html
