  4. Diao Jiao Lou Houses • All made of wood • “Hanging attic” • Built near a mountain or on top of water • Found in Hunan • On stilts

  5. Jian Nan Houses • Black & white houses • Sitting beside water

  6. Mongolian Yurt • It doesn’t need any concrete but is made of only wood and fur • Found in Northern China

  7. Qiang Village houses • Square houses • Flat roof • Made of stones • Found in Sichuan

  8. Siheyuan Houses • Square yard surrounded with houses on three sides • common style of house for Han Chinese

  9. Tulou Earth Building – Hakka Houses • one door and no windows at ground level for protection against enemies • round in shape and divided into rooms inside

  10. Yaodong Houses • These yaodongs are built into the slope against a hill or valley

  11. High-rise Apartments • Millions of Chinese live in small high-rise apartments • In Beijing alone, 15 million live in these sort of high-rise
