  1. The Gift of Righteousness Romans 3:21-31 By David Turner www.BibleStudies-Online.com

  2. Pharisee vs. Tax Collector In the following video ask yourself, which one of these two people best represents me?

  3. Video

  4. The Previous Bad News (Rm. 1:17-2:20) • We are not righteous • Gentiles aren’t righteous • Jews aren’t righteous • We are not faithful • Gentiles aren’t faithful • Jews aren’t faithful • We cannot stand justified before God • Gentiles aren’t justified • Jews aren’t justified

  5. The Bad News The Law • Though good • Was not able to make one righteous before God • Condemned all men, both Jew and Gentile because it showed that all are sinners So, Is there any hope of being Righteous and Justified before God?

  6. Good News Righteousness • Is not something you are • Is not something you earn • It is what you have been declared to be • Not because of you, but because God has prepared a means for you • Not because you earned it, but because Christ has paid a price for it

  7. Romans 3:21–31 (ESV) 21 But now the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from the law, although the Law and the Prophets bear witness to it— 22 the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. For there is no distinction: 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24 and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, 25 whom God put forward as a propitiation by his blood, to be received by faith. This was to show God’s righteousness, because in his divine forbearance he had passed over former sins. 26 It was to show his righteousness at the present time, so that he might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.

  8. Romans 3:21–31 The Righteousness we receive from God isn’t by the Law 21 But now the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from the law, although the Law and the Prophets bear witness to it— 22 the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe.

  9. Romans 3:21–31 The Righteousness of God Through the Faithfulness of Christ 21 But now the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from the law, although the Law and the Prophets bear witness to it— 22 the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. Romans 3:22 (NET) 3:22 namely, the righteousness of God through the faithfulness of Jesus Christ for all who believe.

  10. Romans 3:21–31 The Gift is for All of Us For there is no distinction: 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24 and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, 25 whom God put forward as a propitiation by his blood, to be received by faith.

  11. Romans 3:21–31 God Withheld judgment This was to show God’s righteousness, because in his divine forbearance he had passed over former sins.

  12. Romans 3:21–31 26 It was to show his righteousness at the present time, so that he might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.

  13. Romans 3:21–31 27 Then what becomes of our boasting? It is excluded. By what kind of law? By a law of works? No, but by the law of faith. 28 For we hold that one is justified by faith apart from works of the law.

  14. Romans 3:21–31 29 Or is God the God of Jews only? Is he not the God of Gentiles also? Yes, of Gentiles also, 30 since God is one—who will justify the circumcised by faith and the uncircumcised through faith. 31 Do we then overthrow the law by this faith? By no means! On the contrary, we uphold the law.

  15. You did nothing to receive the righteousness of God • Jesus did it all • We are saved, not by our righteousness, but by his righteousness • We are saved, not by our faithfulness, but by his faithfulness • We are saved, not by any sacrifice we made, but by the sacrifice he made

  16. A Righteous Standing before God is a Gift of God’s Grace. 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24 and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, Believe and Receive his Gift!
