  3. Facts about Buddhism • Buddhism is a religion that is found all over the world • First reached China from India roughly 2000 years ago. • During Han Dynasty • Had an ally which was Taoism

  4. The Han Dynasty fell in 220 • Northern and Southern China reunited in 589 under the Sui Empire • Buddhism reached its peak during the Tang dynasty • At this time there were more than 40,000 shrines and temples

  5. In the 5th century the Wei dynasty of northern china absorbed the other tribes and by 440 it controlled all of northern China. • In 446 the Wei ruler Emperor Taiwu began a brutal suppression of Buddhism • He died in 452 his successor ended the suppressions
