  1. Why Valentine's Day Is Celebrated Valentine’s Day is celebrated in the honor of love and is cherished across the globe by those who are in love. Couples and married ones celebrate this day to express their love in a special way. There is a whole week which is dedicated to cherish this most beautiful feeling known as love. Couples exchange Valentine gifts and plan surprises to make their better half happy, feel loved and valued at the same time. The Valentine week starts with rose day and ends with the celebration of Valentine’s Day on 14th February every year. The origin of this dates back to the time of St. Valentine and the first Valentine’s Day was celebrated in the year 496. The name of this special day was taken from the name of St. Valentine whose memory is cherished on this occasion. There are several stories about who he was but the famous one mentions him as a priest from Rome during third century. It was the time when Emperor Claudius II banned marriages for soldiers. He was of the belief that married men were bad soldier during wars. As a result, he did not allow soldiers to get married which was opposed by St. Valentine who considered it unjust as well as unfair. So, it was St. Valentine who would arrange marriages in secret and out of the knowledge of emperor. When Claudius came to know of it he made St. Valentine to be thrown behind the bars and he was also sentenced to death. In the meantime, St. Valentine fell in love with jailor’s daughter. On his doomsday, 14th February, when St. Valentine was taken to be killed; he sent a love letter signed “from your Valentine” to her. Later people started using his name to express the extent of their love for someone special. The celebrations of proper Valentine’s Day dates back long ago and believed to have started with Roman festival named Lupercalia. This festival was celebrated in the middle of February which marks the official start of springtime in Rome. Also, as a part of celebrations of this festival boys would draw names of girls from a box. This tradition calls for them to be boyfriend and girlfriend during the festival and sometimes they would get married to each other as well. Later, it was decided by the Church to observe it as a Christian celebration and observed this occasion in the memory of St. Valentine as well. Eventually, it was people who started wishing each other Happy Valentine’s Day and the name was used by the people to express their emotions towards someone they love more than anything in this world. Above all, Valentine’s Day is celebrated to cherish the love, affection, care, gratitude one has for their better half. Husbands would tell their wives how much they love them, boyfriends would propose to their girlfriends and they exchange gifts between each other as a memoir of their love and passion for each other. Special Valentine’s Day cakes, chocolates, flower arrangements and soft toys are used to express love. For order online valentine’s gifts visit https://www.jaipurflorist.in or call at 8288024442.
