  2. Meet Sara Sara first fell ill on November 24, 2010 She had just run her first half marathon.

  3. Meet Sara In the fall of her junior year, Sara was diagnosed with ME also known as MyalgicEncephalomyelitis

  4. MyalgicEncephalomyelitis The term Myalgic Encephalomyelitis means: myo- = muscle algia = pain encephala- = brain myel = spinal cord itis = inflammation Myalgic—muscle pain Encephalomyelitis—inflammation of the spinal chord and brain stem

MyalgicEncephalomyelitis ME = muscle pain due to inflammation of the spinal chord & brain stem There is no true diagnostic test for ME. • Instead, patients are diagnosed with the many symptoms of the disease. There are sixty four distinct symptoms of ME POTS is a symptom of ME and a major reason that Sara is confined to a wheel chair.
