Teaching OrganizationApproaches to Learning Session 1 PYP FIS 2013
Objectives for session 1 • The meaning of organization • The benefits of organization • The challenges of organization • Skills needed to enable successful organization
WHAT DO WE MEAN BY ORGANIZATION?- prepare a Mind Map and talk to your partner – 3-4 min
Definition Organization is the ability to have your time, materials and resources so arranged that you can use what you need to support your learning. It is also to communicate your knowledge and understanding in a logical fashion so that others can understand what you are saying or writing. Organization is one of the hardest skills for students to acquire. Why ?
How we are going to teach organization? To master ATL skills of organization, teachers can encourage students to imagine the learning process is divided into two overlapping and interdependent areas:
Areas of Organization A. Self- Management – including personal goal setting, organization of learning materials
Areas of Organization B. Time management – including using time effectively in class, keeping to deadlines, using time effectively outside of the classroom, organizing a diary or agenda of school and social commitments
Tips- key questions to be displayed in your classroom • What organizational tools do I have • What aspects of my organization do I need to develop • How can I best organize myself?
Why do wee need all that? After discussing with your partner, please, make a list of the benefits of organization
Challenges Please, refer to particular students names, discuss why many able students are held back by their inability to organize their thoughts, materials and time.
