Mastering Torah Trope: Chanting Techniques and Resources for Effective Learning

Join our class to enhance your Torah chanting skills using the PocketTorah Trope. Bring your handouts and slides to every session. Please note that there will be no class on November 16. If you miss a class, resources are available for download at www.klerman.com, including audio recordings and slides. By the end of today's session, you will be able to chant half of the Torah, and by next week, nearly 80%. Explore optional practices, like listening to Cantor Barugel’s CD or using Trope Trainer. Reserve December 13 and/or 20 for synagogue reading!

Trope Class #1 • Administrative • Audio recording on • Name cards -- Bring to every class • Handouts • Slides -- Bring to next class as well • Trope with musical notation • CD by Cantor Barugel • No class on November 16 • If miss class, go to www.klerman.com and click on “LL&V” • Can download slides, handouts, and audio recording • Reserve December 13 and/or 20 to read in synagogue • Agenda for today • Introduction to class webpage, PocketTorah Trope, PocketTorah • Enachta and SofPasuk • By end of today’s class, you will be able to chant about half of the Torah. • By the end of next weeks’ class, you will be able to chant about 80%.

What To Do Before Next Class • Nothing required • Optional ways to practice and improve • Listen to CD of Cantor Barugel in car or on phone or iPod • Play trope on musical instrument • Sing along with PocketTorah Trope • Practice verses in handout with trope • Use PocketTorah to check (but not as crutch!) • Practice on any random verses in Torah • Use PocketTorah to check (but not as crutch!) • Other resources • Some people recommend Trope Trainer • www.kinnor.com • $115-$155 for PC or Mac • $25 for iPhone + in-app purchases • I have not used Trope Trainer
