The Vision for Acute Care • A 3-Hospital Network for Southern Area • Main Acute and Maternity Care – DHH, CAH • Supporting Local Hospital – STH • Maintain Profile of Service BUT Reform • Develop Range and Accessibility of Care • Expand Services (eg T&O Phase 2) • More locally provided services (Ophthalmology)

  3. Why Change? • Safety • Quality – A good experience and effective care in hospital • Accessibility - local where possible • Benchmarking – understand areas for improvement • A Partnership with community based care – patient-centred pathways of care • Efficiency – reduce wasted resources

  4. Reforming Services • Reducing inpatient stays: • Pre Operative Assessment • Increasing Procedures done as Day Case/OP • Reducing delays in patient flow (diagnostics, etc) • Streaming patients (MAU, Ward Reconfiguration) • Alternatives to Hospital Care

  5. Redesigning Services • Developing a Strategic Plan for Hospital Network (DHH, CAH and STH) • Developing new/expanded services • Urology • Ophthalmology • Phase 2 T&O • Expanding the catchment population

Support, Development & Enhancement of Services • Renal – New Consultant • Development:- • Maternity – 2 Consultants • Enhancement:- • Paediatric Anaesthetic input • Heart Failure • Locality based COPD Teams • Rapid Discharge Teams – Links with Older People & Primary Care Directorate • Service Framework Developments: • Cardiovascular • Stroke • Respiratory • Ideal Ward/Productive Ward

  8. Stage 1: Maintaining Current Services £5m+ Expenditure in 2008/09 • Maternity Refurbishment • Replacement Generator Plant • Theatre Ventilation upgrade • Decontamination improvements • Infection Control Improvements • Firecode investment • Renal Service development • Additional Car Parking

Stage 2: Supporting Service Reform • Interim Ambulatory Care Centre in OPD • Women’s Centre - Maternity/Gynae OP to vacant area in Maternity Unit • Paediatric OP/Ward Redesign • Ward Reconfiguration – Long Stay/Short Stay • Medical & Surgical Admission Unit • Day/12 hour Ward • Expand ENT and Urology Services at DHH • Paediatric Elective Surgery Centre - Option?

Stage 3: Strategic Development Plan £81m Scheme to include: • Theatres redevelopment • Day Procedure Unit • Refurbishment of Outpatients to include Ambulatory Care Centre • Upgrade of Maternity Unit and SCBU • Refurbishment of Radiology Department • Additional Clinical Accommodation • Remedial works to external facade
