Background • Father was influential business man and Michigan Governor • Attended Brigham Young University • Attended Harvard Business and Law School, • Soon founded the Investment firm Bain Capital in 1984 • Defeated by Edward Kennedy in the 1994 Mass. Senate Race • Successfully managed the Salt Lake Organizing Committee to host the Olympic Games in 2002 • Successfully Ran for Mass. Governor in 2003 • Lost the 2008 Republican Nomination to John McCain

  3. Strategy • Began immediately after 2008 Nomination loss • Focus on previous success in business • Focus on attacking Obama’s economic policies • Has refrained from attacking his nomination opponents • Has run a “defensive” and risk free nomination campaign

  4. Strengths • Largest fundraiser of all candidates • Personal success in business has given his economic plans legitimacy • Bi-partisan history as Mass. Governor, • Navigated the Salt Lake Games into the black
