The AIAA must adopt modern technology solutions to improve technical committee (TC) and conference experiences. With a proposed $5000 technology wedge for Space 2011 and beyond, we aim to address the challenge of integrating impactful technological ideas after the conference budget is set. The initial rollout will focus on SMG TCs and PCs, followed by a wider implementation across all TAC TCs and PCs. We encourage feedback through our technology survey while also addressing concerns about representation and participant engagement from academia, industry, and government in TCs.

Discussion points SMG: Less than 20% Representation from Academia >30% of our members have been in the same TC for > five years Similar trends in some (not all) TCs Representation (Academia/Industry/Govt) in some TCs seems skewed – which may be appropriate in some areas Bottom line: Each TC should consider their current profile and, as appropriate, set goals and actions to improve Plan to hold Telecon with Membership chairs/TC chairs in next few weeks to provide forum to share best practices and concerns
