  4. If you travelled across Africa, you would see many types of climate and lots of different plants and trees... Climate

  5. The North and East of Africa is hot and dry Climate and Vegetation In the “drylands” trees, plants and grasses grow under difficult conditions. In some desert areas no vegetation grows at all.

  6. The centre and west of Africa are hot and wet. In some areas it rains all year round. Climate and Vegetation Vegetation is thick and green. Close to the equator, tropical rainforest can be found. Equator

  7. In mountain areas , it can be very cold. At the top, the temperature drops well below 0 degrees and you can see snow! Climate Equator

  8. TREE AID works here, in the Sahel. • The Sahel is a very dry area next to the Sahara desert. • Although it is very dry, 325 million peoplestilllive here! • The Sahel crosses 12 countries. Equator

  9. Sahel Vegetation • The Sahel used to be rich in vegetation and animals. Treessuch as the baobab, mango and dawadawa, used to grow here. • Now the vegetation is disappearing... • Why do you think this might be? Equator

  10. Theworld's largest desert, The Sahara, covers most of north Africa. The Sahara desert is getting bigger every year. Deserts Why do you think this could be?

  11. In order to survive, people have chopped down lots of trees in the Sahel. This is called deforestation. Once the trees are gone, the soil becomes dry and new plants cannot grow. How do you think this affects people who live in the Sahel? If this continues, what do you think will happen in the future?
