Challenges to Integration • Concept of school-based clinic in the county. • New to the county and parents. • “Needs assessment” was not comprehensive • Actual needs vs. anticipated needs don’t match. • Different electronic dental records (EDR) systems (SOS and subcontractor). • Limited school engagement. • Major transitions within the subcontracted organization.

Strategies Used to Address Challenges • Studied best practices of other school-based clinics. • Encouraged school/teacher participation. • School participation in advisory committee. • Incentives for teachers. • SOS participated at parent/teacher conferences. • Hired an outreach coordinator. • Present in the community. • Personalized conversation with individual parents. • SOS participated in health fairs.
