  1. “What can I do with these devices that would be impossible to do without them?” Jennie Magiera http://www.edweek.org/tm/articles/2012/01/25/tln_magiera1.html?print=1

  2. Are iDevices Disruptive Technology? “These innovations drastically change the course by which users connect, engage, and relate with the world and transform society.” The Innovator’s Dilemma Clayton Christensen, 1997

  3. Are iDevices Disruptive Technology? Students are more engaged using this technology in the classroom. There is little classroom disruption. -BISD Teacher

  4. Teacher Comments Students today process information differently. The combination of visual input along with tactile control keeps students focused on their objective. Brain research shows is easier for students to absorb information presented in smaller chunks. Kids have grown up with these devices and what seems new and different for us, is second nature to them. It's presenting information to them in "their language."

  5. There’s an App for That! Practice – content specific Research – Safari & other Create – audio, video, text

  6. Practice Content Specific apps for practicing math facts, sentence structure, ABCs, numbers, shapes, … Have a plan for the way the app will be used in class - Examples: LifeCycles / 3dCell

  7. Teacher Comments Scholars will persevere through a more difficult problem with the iDevice. For example, money is a difficult concept for most second grade scholars, but using the app Jungle Coins - with a guided response sheet, scholars were more interested in learning the coins, and then for differentiation, the levels in the game could be changed so that each scholar could work at their pace and level. Scholars were focused and engaged for a solid 45 minute period with practice in coin value, comparing values, and making change.

  9. Teacher Comments I have only my own iPad in my classroom at this time and "Oh my!" The response from my students is truly amazing! I teach students with severe cognitive impairment. They have taken to the iPad like it is a comfortable and favored old friend. They are at ease navigating around a variety of pages. The majority of my students are able to get in and out of apps and have taught themselves (underline "taught themselves") to work within the various apps.

  10. Teacher Comments My young students with special needs (autism and language delayed) find success easily and catch onto concepts quicker when they use iPad and iTouch. These devices give the children another opportunity to practice skills in a way that keeps their attention and provides a very visual avenue for reinforcing previous learning as well as new learning.

  14. Research YouTube – Create your own Channel and “favorite” videos for students to view BrainPOP– FREE video of the day; full access with a BrainPOP subscription

  15. Student Comments It was fun not looking in textbooks for answers but using modern day technology to find it so you can't feel bored because there is technology. This is a good thing to do for education purposes in science class.

  16. Student Comments Yeah! I love using the iPad - it's way better than using boring text books:) I love using the iTouch, because it helps me comprehend and understand more information about topics that we learn in school.

  17. Creative Writing T’was the Night Before Christmas Snowy Owl Pages

  18. Teacher Comments Students are extremely engaged. I find that it helps them with their writing. I have students use the iPadto respond to class blogs. Kids are more apt to "write" using an iPadthan with pencil/paper and I don't have the "I don't know what to write" responses that I normally receive with a standard writing assessment.

  19. Student Comments I liked it because we aren't wasting paper and we didn't have to write in cursive. I like the iPad, it was really fun, it was better than a pencil.

  20. Create a Story My Hero Decades Revolutionary War The Anaconda Cool Shapes of Nature

  21. Teacher Comments My students have produced higher quality products when assisted by the iPod Touch devices than without. Their writing and communication skills have been enhanced. My students are more engaged the moment the iPods are mentioned and therefore there is an increased time on task. This by itself increases their achievement.

  22. Create with Images Alan Owl Pellets Book Trailer Planets Photo Sharing PhotoBooth TellPic SonicPics Fotobabble

  23. Teacher Comments "My students were extremely excited to demonstrate how they found geometry in everyday life by using the iPod Touch to take pictures and create a video. I observed a deeper understanding of geometry as I listened to the students describe shapes and figures on their videos.”

  24. Student Comments I love working with SonicPicsand putting my work on YouTube. I had a good time on the iPad because we were making a book .

  27. Student Comments I feel great about using the iPadbecause you can make a product or do art with them I want to use them again. Please can we use them everyday please.

  28. Student Comments I think the iPad is a fun and creative way of learning. I would love to do this again. Makes learning more fun and rather exciting. Also is better because you don't use as much paper.

  29. Create Demonstrations Rhetorical Analysis What Shapes Do You See? Educreations ScreenChomp

  30. Student Comments I really liked the iPadbecause it is a fun way to learn. It really helps you get what you’re learning. I would love to be able to use the iPadalot more in all subjects. Thank You! All I have to say is AWESOME

  31. Student Response Socrative – create free Exercises, Exit Tickets, Quizzes, Games, & Reports Runs on tablets, smartphones, & laptops

  32. Teacher Comments Students are extremely engaged from the moment they know iPadsare going to be used. Because of the engagement, I see more effective feedback and input from students that shows they have grasped concepts and can apply them - more than I typically see with paper and pencil assignments.

  38. Student Comments It is awesome to have such a device at our fingertips and it's nice to know some teachers think we are trustworthy!!! "I love it so much and it helps us in learning and it is so much cooler then a computer.”

  39. Apps & Purchasing Recommended/Reviewed Apps - http://www.livebinders.com/play/play/86278 http://apps4schools.blogspot.com/ FREE Content – follow TCEA on Twitter Volume Purchase

  40. Teacher Comments I enjoyed working with the children while they used the iPads. They were 100% engaged. Two classes are usually less attentive, however during our hour together, all students were engaged in all parts of the lesson.

  41. Teacher Comments I have seen that these devices engage students and hold their focus for a longer period of time than some other methods, particularly when it comes to "skills-based" practice (i.e.: memorizing math facts). continued

  42. Teacher Comments There are excellent apps that help students practice visual/spatial thinking, logical thinking, and other higher-level thinking skills. The devices are also a great way to offer differentiated products that showcase student learning. continued

  43. Teacher Comments My students have used PhotoCardLite, StoryKit, Animoto, Type Drawing, and SonicPics this year to create products that reflect their learning.
