William Shakespeare • William Shakespeare was born April 23, 1564 • He was born in Stratford-Upon-Avon, England • Died April 23, 1616 also in Stratford-Upon-Avon • Married Anne Hatheway in 1582 • He had three kids; Susanna, Hamnet, and Judith • Most likely attended the Kings New School, for classical education in literature, philosophy and arts.   6. Review • Romeo and Juliet was a very well written play by William Shakespeare. It had tragedy, romance, violence, and family. It expressed Shakespeare’s feelings about the world around him at the time. Shakespeare subtly made fun of the what was happening in Europe, such as the black plague. In Romeo and Juliet, Romeo doesn’t get Juliet’s note because the courier died of a plague. This expresses the irony of how Romeo and Juliet died from this disease, just as Europe died from the plague too. • Shakespeare also expresses the way things can be misunderstood and that one mistake can lead to people doing bad things to you. Just as how Romeo accidentally got in the way, leading to the death of Mercutio, leading to Romeo killing Tybalt. Man is very unforgiving and wants revenge, but revenge never leads to anything good and instead only leads to more death. That is what Shakespeare is trying to say through the fight scene. • So all in all Romeo and Juliet is a story about how revenge only makes things worse, and also it is making a statement about how stupid the Europeans are for allowing their population to be affected that greatly by the Black Plague. Romeo and Juliet is a story about love, revenge, and government; and for that reason it will always be remembered.

It was under the rule of the Scala family at that time. • During the 1800’s Napoleon and his troops were occupying the city; in 1866 it finally became part of the Kingdom of Italy.   14. THE BLACK PLAGUE Fig 19 The Black Death appeared in Europe around 1328 and Lasted until around 1351. It was spread by fleas, rats, and Other small rodents. One symptom of the disease left the Vitim with black skin around the swellings. Around 200 million people were killed by this disease In Europe. People at this time didn’t have a sure-fire way Of curing the disease and were thus terrified of it. Some Treatments included vinegar as they thought that this Cleansed the disease out of you. Because of all the deaths Great value was placed on labor once the plague died down. Today a cure for the Black Plague has been found and Any cases of the disease are very rare.
