  3. Action / purpose • Methamphetamine is a white, odorless, bitter-tasting crystalline powder that easily dissolves in water or alcohol and is taken orally, intranasally (snorting the powder), by needle injection, or by smoking. • Chemical breakdown = C10H15N

  4. History and Medical use • Synthesized in 1983 from ephedrine by a Japenese chemist • Derived from elements in chemical structure •   methyl, alpha-methyl, phenyl-ethyl amine • Crystalized meth was synthesized pharmacologist Akira Ogata via reduction of ephedrine using red phosphorus and iodine. • Medical use approved by FDA for ADHD and Obesity in children and adults

  5. Rating • Meth is a schedule II stimulant , which mean it has a high potential for abuse • Available through prescription and CANNOT be refilled • Treatment prescribed for narcolepsy, attention deficit disorder, and obesity
