  2. What is Our Goal? • To successfully pass the CRE/SMI in all five areas • Certification • Meals and nutrition standards • Civil rights and children with special needs • Commodity foods • Competitive foods

Steps to Take in Certification • Train employees in correct POS procedures • Keep POS system updated through daily WAN procedures • Follow up and resolve error reports promptly • Resolve meal-counting discrepancies • Visit assigned sites for Site Monitoring Reviews on schedule and follow up as needed

  4. Steps to Take in Meals and Nutrition Standards • Train employees to complete tracking reports correctly • Train employees in Offer versus Serve • Monitor tracking reports often • Keep menus updated • Use standardized recipes

  5. Steps to Take in Meals and Nutrition Standards • Serve all foods on the menu • Do not serve food that is not on the menu • Document menu substitutions correctly • Ship food safely and according to procedures

  6. Steps to Take in Civil Rights and Children With Special Needs • Civil rights poster displayed correctly • Wellness policy displayed correctly • Health department report displayed correctly • Use tracking reports to document special diets

  7. Steps to Take in Commodity Foods • Complete Storage Facility Review (which everyone has done, yeah!) • Store foods correctly

  8. Steps to Take in Competitive Foods • Follow a la carte guidelines

  9. Steps to Take in All Areas • Attend trainings • Be in attendance February 27-March 9, 2012 • Control December paperwork • Participate • Ask questions, give suggestions • Be a good team member • Show leadership to your staff

  10. Site Monitoring Review Forms • First 2 due October 10 • Second 2 due November 14 • Final 2 due January 30 • Hint: Complete year-round schools first • Hint: Start early

  12. Site Monitoring Review Forms • Observe the entire meal period • The reviewers will! • Observe how pre-school, special education and other groups are handled • The reviewers will! • Ask questions • The reviewers will!

  13. Important Dates • October 4—Training with Donna Caeg • October 10—First 2 site reviews due • October 25/26—Staff institute • November 14—Second 2 site reviews due • November 15/16—Staff institute • December—Review month for paperwork

Important Dates • January—Weekly Thursday morning meetings • January 30—final 2 site reviews due • February—Weekly Thursday morning meetings • Week of February 27—Donna to review secondary schools and unannounced sites • Week of March 5—Review team in district • Later in spring—Results of review and plans for corrective action as needed
