  1. This is Sophie. She is a little girl who lives in an orphanage. She has no mum or dad.

  2. This is the BFG – the Big Friendly Giant. He is very tall with big ears. He has a suitcase full of jars and a trumpet.

  3. Sophie wakes up in the middle of the night and looks out of her window. She watches the BFG empty a jar into the trumpet, then blow the trumpet into children’s bedroom windows.

  4. The BFG catches Sophie looking at him, so he reaches into her window, picks her up and runs away back to Giant Country.

  5. The BFG brings Sophie back to his cave in Giant Country.

  6. Sophie is scared that the BFG will eat her. The BFG says, “I don’t eat human beans! The other giants eat children but not me! I eat snozzcumbers. They are disgusting!”

  7. The BFG is kind to Sophie and Sophie starts to feel safe. Sophie and the BFG become good friends.

  8. Sophie can see lots of shelves in the cave. On the shelves are hundreds of glass jars.

  9. Inside the jars are dreams. The BFG catches the dreams in his dream-catcher then puts them in a jar.

  10. He uses his trumpet to blow the good dreams into children’s bedrooms while they sleep.

  11. Dreams are hard to see, so the BFG uses his huge ears to hear the dreams, then he catches them.

  12. The other giants are much bigger then the BFG. They are mean and nasty and like to eat children.

  13. The other giants are very cruel to the BFG. They throw him in the air and call him horrid names.

  14. Sophie and the BFG go out to catch dreams. They catch a very good dream called a golden phizzard. They also catch a nightmare, called a trogglehumper.

  15. The dreams move inside the jar. They look like gas and jelly and have lots of different colours.

  16. The BFG always writes a label for every jar. He listens to the dream to find out if it will be a good dream or a nightmare. He writes on the label what the dream is about.

  17. One night, the BFG blows the scary dreams onto the nasty giants while they are sleeping. They have horrible nightmares and start screaming and fighting.

  18. Sophie can see the nasty giants running away every night. They are going to the city to find children to eat!

  19. Sophie and the BFG think of a plan to stop the nasty giants from eating the children.

  20. They make a special dream for the Queen to show her what the nasty giants are doing.

  21. The BFG takes Sophie to the Queen’s palace and blows the special dream into the Queen’s bedroom.

  22. When the Queen wakes up, she is very angry that the bad giants are eating children. She asks the BFG to help her catch the nasty giants.

  23. The Queen makes the BFG a delicious breakfast to say thank you.

  24. After breakfast, the Queen tells the army the plan to catch the giants. The army fly to Giant Country and capture the giants while they are sleeping.

  25. The army lock the giants up in a deep, dark hole. They are only allowed to eat disgusting snozzcumbers. Everybody is safe and happy now!

  26. Sophie teaches the BFG how to speak properly. The BFG starts to write a book called...
