Highfields School Voice of Sport Created by Annabel Macgregor and Ollie Walden
What is the voice of sport? The voice of sport system runs throughout all years of pupils from year 7 to year 13. From each year group two of the most sport aware and involved pupils are selected, which includes one girl and one boy. These people go forward to their year group and find out from their fellow students what they want out of sport, then go and make these things happen.
When do the voices of sport meet? Every month the members of the voice of sport meet at lunch time for a meeting in which they discuss the main issues that have been brought up by their year groups. These meetings are some of the main programs our school runs, and have been set up by students from all years at the school.
How does voice of sport actually help? Through voice of sport we as a team have set up a variety of extra curricular and curricular activities for the pupils at our schools. Examples are: • Golf in PE lessons • Basketball clubs at lunch • Saturday cycling club • Inter house competitions
Current voice of sport actions Within our voice of sport we are currently working on a few projects and ideas which we believe will benefit the school, some of these are: • Refurbishment of changing rooms • Inter house multi sports competitions • Lunch time basketball clubs focused on year 9 pupils.
Voice of sport and young ambassadors Lead on by the voice of sport members we have a team of young ambassadors at Highfields school. These group of students go round the primary schools delivering assemblies and also receive nationally recognised training.
Leadership academy The voice of sport system has a strong link with our schools leadership system. The sports leaders are known for their dedication and commitment to help the community. The leaders regularly run training and competitions for the primary schools around the area very successfully.
Our voice of sport team The year 11 and year 12 representatives. The group is led by Mrs Allen, a PE teacher at the school
Good school sports councils We believe that good school sport councils, have members from all years throughout the school. We believe that having small groups helps to work on the projects. We also believe that it is very important that the students get a say, in what goes on within school sports and in the sports department. Having regular meetings helps a sports council to ensure their projects run, and that action is made upon their ideas.
HIGHFIELDS SCHOOL PARLIAMENT • We have a Sports MP in yr 13 who sits on the school Parliament to bring forward ideas from that body, back to the Voice of Sport group and visa versa.
