  1. Is Christianity a psychological crutch?

  2. Romans 1:20-23 For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God. Yes, they knew God, but they wouldn’t worship him as God or even give him thanks. And they began to think up foolish ideas of what God was like. As a result, their minds became dark and confused. Claiming to be wise, they instead became utter fools. And instead of worshiping the glorious, ever-living God, they worshiped idols made to look like mere people and birds and animals and reptiles.

  3. “Religion is the opiate of the masses” or “Religion is the opium of the people” Karl Marxin his 1843 work Contribution • Religion is like an opiate (a drug which decreases pain), in that it satisfies and placates the public as a whole.

  4. psychological crutch? “existing in the mind” or “reality as it is perceived” If an experience is merely psychological, then it must be totally subjective A clumsy device to help someone lurch through life. It assumes the presence of a problem and the supply of an aid. It is a help, not a solution to the problem.

  5. Is Christianity based on a subjective perception or on an objective reality?

  6. A subjective view of Christianity says… Christians were preconditioned to believe in Christ by their families and culture. • This assumes that • All Christians were raised in a Christian environment. • Preconditioning makes the point invalid. Preconditioning does not make the point true of false. Preconditioning does not validate or invalidate a position.

  7. A subjective experience, does not prove an objective truth. • An individual’s experience can verify truth, but it doesn’t prove it. • Experience plays a supportive role. • Christians should not claim Christianity is true b/c they experienced it. They should say that Christianity is true and their experiences confirm it.

  8. Is Christianity subjective or objective? Is what we believe based on our feelings and emotions? or Is it based on objective facts?

  9. The Resurrection The Resurrection is the jugular vein of Christianity – if true, so is Christianity.

  10. A psychological Crutch? A Crutch assumes a person needs an aid. It assumes a person is hindered and this crutch will help them hobble through life.

  11. Christ does not offer a crutch- He gives us a cure. Christians are not given a crutch for minimal assistance but a complete cure which provides maximal abundance. He substituted His life for ours and became our full payment. We are completely restored.

  12. 2 Corinthians 5:17-21 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting men’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God. God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
