  10. Contents of the Ark Ex 16:32 ¶ And Moses said, This is the thing which the LORD commandeth, Fill an omer of it to be kept for your generations; that they may see the bread wherewith I have fed you in the wilderness, when I brought you forth from the land of Egypt. And Moses said unto Aaron, Take a pot, and put an omer full of manna therein, and lay it up before the LORD, to be kept for your generations. Deut 31:26 Take this book of the law, and put it in the side of the ark of the covenant of the LORD your God, that it may be there for a witness against thee. Num 17:10 And the LORD said unto Moses, Bring Aaron's rod again before the testimony, to be kept for a token against the rebels; and thou shalt quite take away their murmurings from me, that they die not. Aaron’s Rod Pot of Manna God’s Law

  11. Contents of the Ark De 31:26 Take this book of the law, and put it in the side of the ark of the covenant of the LORD your God, that it may be there for a witness against thee. Ps 19:8 The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes. Rom 7:12 Wherefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy, and just, and good. God’s Law

  12. Exod 25:17-18 And thou shalt make a mercy seat of pure gold: two cubits and a half shall be the length thereof, and a cubit and a half the breadth thereof. And thou shalt make two cherubims of gold, of beaten work shalt thou make them, in the two ends of the mercy seat.

  13. Exod25:21And thou shalt put the mercy seat above upon the ark;

  14. Ex 25:22 And there I will meet with thee, and I will commune with thee from above the mercy seat, from between the two cherubims which are upon the ark of the testimony, of all things which I will give thee in commandment unto the children of Israel.

  15. The term “Mercy Seat” is only found in the Old Testament and it is the Hebrew word kapporethand it is used when speaking of the lid of the Ark of the Covenant. The meaning of the word is to cover; figuratively, to expiate or condone, to placate or cancel:-- appease, make an atonement, cleanse, disannul, forgive, be merciful, pacify, pardon, purge away, put off, make reconcilliation.

  16. In The New Testament we find the word “propitiation” which comes from the Greek word, hilasterionwhich means, an atoning victim, or the lid of the Ark ; mercyseat, propitiation. Rom 3:25 Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; 1John 2:2 And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world. 1John 4:10 Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.

  17. 1John 4:10 Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. JESUS CHRIST Mercy Seat

  18. The Mercy Seat of pure Gold represented God’s throne in the midst of a sinful people. Being placed on top of the Ark of the Covenant, the mercy seat revealed that God could cover the Ark, containing the Law which revealed His standards and show mercy. Once a year, on the Day of Atonement, the High Priest entered the Holy of Holies to sprinkle the blood of a sacrifice on the mercy seat, and the sins of the people would be covered for another year.

  19. The Priest ministers daily within the Holy Place around the Table of Shewbread, the Golden Lampstand and the Altar of Incense CUT-AWAY VIEW OF THE TABERNACLE But only once a year on the Day of Atonement does he enter into the Holy of Holies Holy of Holies Holy Place

  20. The Day Of Atonement Lev 16:2 And the LORD said unto Moses, Speak unto Aaron thy brother, that he come not at all times into the holy place within the vail before the mercy seat, which is upon the ark; that he die not: for I will appear in the cloud upon the mercy seat. Lev 16:29 ¶ And this shall be a statute for ever unto you: that in the seventh month, on the tenth day of the month, ye shall afflict your souls, and do no work at all, whether it be one of your own country, or a stranger that sojourneth among you: For on that day shall the priest make an atonement for you, to cleanse you, that ye may be clean from all your sins before the LORD. Lev 16:34 And this shall be an everlasting statute unto you, to make an atonement for the children of Israel for all their sins once a year. And he did as the LORD commanded Moses.

  21. A Scenario of The Day of Atonement 1. Two goats are brought forward, one is for the Lord, one is the scapegoat

  22. A Scenario of The Day of Atonement 2. The High Priest sacrifices one of the goats.

  23. A Scenario of The Day of Atonement 3. The high priest enters the Most Holy Place with the blood of the sacrifice and sprinkles it on the mercy seat of the ark of the covenant;

  24. A Scenario of The Day of Atonement 4. The high priest confesses the sins of Israel on the remaining goat;

  25. This “scapegoat” is now led off into the wilderness to signify the removal of the sins of Israel for another year

  26. How Does All This Relate To Us ? Heb 9:11 But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building; Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us. The mercy seat foreshadows the Lord Jesus Christ. He is our mercy seat. Because Christ fully satisfied the holy demands of God for our sin, God is completely just in extending righteousness to the one who places faith in Christ. God did not overlook sin! Rather, His demands were fully satisfied in the person of Jesus Christ. 1Pet 1:18 Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:
